IDIOMS – 2

Accidentally on purpose:             If you do something intentionally, but pretend it was an accident, you do      it accidentally on purpose

Add fuel to the flames:                 If you add fuel to the flames, you door say something that makes a         difficult situation worse.

Answer nature’s call:                     Answering nature’s call means a person’s visit to the rest room.


Backseat driver:                        A passenger in a car who gives unwanted advice to the driver is       called     a backseat driver.

Badger someone:                       If you badger someone into doing something, means your persistent           nagging or pestering to get the thing done.

Balancing act:                            Trying to satisfy two or more people or groups having different needs and     keeping everybody happy is performing a balancing act.

Bare your heart/soul:                Baring your heart/soul is revealing your innermost feelings and thoughts.

Barking up the wrong tree:       A person barking up the wrong tree is doing a wrong thing on the belief    that their idea or belief is mistaken or taken as incorrect.

Beating a (hasty) retreat:         A person running away from a dangerous or difficult situation is beating a    (hasty) retreat.

Binge drinking:                         Refers to heavy drinking of alcohol by a group of persons in a short space   of time.

Bite the hand that feeds you:  If you bite the hand that feeds you, then you are doing some harm or         becoming unfriendly to someone who is kind to you.

Blot one’s copy book:              Refers to someone doing something to spoil their reputation or good            record.

On the bottle:                          A person hitting the alcohol to overcome desperation and drinks heavily is  aid to be on the bottle.

Break every rule in the book: Any person behaving in an unacceptable way to the procedures is said to     be breaking every rule in the book.

Breath down your neck:          Someone watching you too closely and make you feel uncomfortable is said   to be breathing down your neck.
